Virtual Trainings | Zoom
Foster care providers and child protection professionals are invited to a free 60-minute insightful training and discussion focused on enhancing parent-caregiver partnerships within the foster care system. Together we will: 1) explore how each role (parent, foster provider, caseworker, system) uniquely contributes to successful partnership, 2) understand the impact early contact between parent and caregiver has on child well-being and reunification, and 3) discuss the myths, fears, and challenges associated with initial calls and share strategies for overcoming potential barriers in communication and relationships.
Registration Wednesday, April 8, 2026, 7:30-8:30pm
April 22, 2026 | 8:30-4pm | Heritage Center in Brooklyn Center, MN The Carriage Hall
On Wednesday, April 22, the Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare will host its Annual Spring Conference – Meeting the Moment: Child Welfare and Immigration. As immigration policies and practices continue to evolve, child welfare professionals are increasingly called upon to respond to complex legal, emotional, and safety concerns affecting immigrant and mixed-status families. This conference will provide an opportunity for shared learning, dialogue, and collaboration to help child welfare professionals better understand the experiences of immigrant children and families, and to strengthen their ability to support them effectively. This event is free and includes a light breakfast and lunch for attendees, as well as free MN BOSW CEUs.

Join us for our National Symposium on Transitions, "Transitions Reimagined: Centering Children. Protecting Development. Preserving Relationships." This year, we’re bringing our virtual national convening into a focused symposium—dedicated entirely to rethinking how we approach transitions in child welfare. This symposium brings together developmental experts, individuals with lived experience, caregivers, practitioners, systems leaders, and policy partners to examine how transitions can be designed to protect development, preserve important relationships, and support children and families through change.
About the group: The Youth Voices participants range in age from 13-26 years old, are diverse in culture (BIPOC, LGBTQ+/Two-Spirit) and their fostering experience (relative, non-relative, adopted, aged-out and parenting youth). This group has identified their goal as making changes so the foster care system becomes a safer, healthier, and a more loving experience for youth and families. Our goal is to equip Fosters or youth currently in the foster care system with the support, leadership skills and the access to the right practice and policy platforms to make their identified changes a reality.
